Planning permission

We’re happy to report that we’ve just received Planning Permission for an extension to a lovely terraced house in Dunlop, East Ayrshire.

We’re about to submit warrant and hope to start on site in the near future.

Back Court Development

Back Court Development can be difficult to achieve permission for and often leads to an unhealthy balance of inside vs outside accommodation.

This project by Donaghy & Dimond Architects treads the tightrope nicely creating a new back court ‘realm’ of small interlinked buildings to provide new kitchen, living and bedroom spaces to this 19th century split level terraced Dublin house. More at Arch Daily

Modern Glass House, Sweden

Simple and beautiful. Although I like the Highland ‘Longhouse’ vernacular it would be nice to see more uncompromisingly modern houses like this built in rural Scotland. It would fit very well with Highland scenery as the image, I think, illustrates. More at Arch Daily

PS If you’re thinking I’ve seen this somewhere before, it featured in David Fincher’s American adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as a home to a member of the mysterious Vanger family

House remodelling

A great example of how reconfiguring a house can transform it. This house in London’s Hoxton by David Mikhail Architects was only extended by 1m at the rear, however cleverly using under utilised space in the house remodelling completely transformed it into something really special.
